Bloom special needs school has been amazing for Jason. He has been with them for a year now and the changes in Jason have been huge. The teachers and therapists have assisted us with Jason's therapy requirements, his eating as well as his education. Jason isn't mentally at the age of a 7 and a half year old. He is still learning to draw, still learning to recognise letters, learning his numbers etc. Jason's has demylenization on his brain and we do not know the effect this has on his learning abilities. What we do know is that Jason did not have this at birth and his neurologist assumes that this came about due to one of Jason's many infections.
With all of Jason's illnesses and therapy he requires we do not know what the future is for Jason and his schooling. What we do know is that he is in the right school that is pushing him forward according to his level and he is progressing where he is. He won't be able to go to mainstream school. I wouldn't say never, you never know what the future holds but Bruce and myself live each day as it comes and try not to worry about the future. Bloom have been amazing. Bloom special needs school started out with an occupational therapists dream and two parents getting together and deciding that a special needs school is what Ballito needs. The school opened their doors in January 2014. They are a non profit organization and rely a lot on fundraising in order to keep the school going. Our school fees are costly but it is due to the specialized nature of the school and the therapy and care our children need at the school. There is currently 5 special needs children at the school all with different diagnosis and difficulties. All of us parents battle financially with the expenses of having to get through the month with the costs of raising a special needs child. SO it was great to hear that the school were willing to take this initiative on and try and help find sponsors for each child. The school will be putting this initiative up on their website when their website is up and running.
If you would like to sponsor Jason's school fees, whether it be a month, two months or as many months as you would like, please contact Jenna Hughes on telephone number 081 219 1220 or email the school at [email protected].
