His speech is just growing from strength to strength. He is saying some sentences now and Bruce and myself can understand a lot of what he is saying. They say speech goes with eating and when you aren't using your mouth and the muscles in your mouth it affects your speech. Shame the other day we went to a farmers market and a whole lot of kids were playing. The one little boy ran up to Jason all excited and said to Jason "come and help us we are making a fort". Well Jason was so excited and was talking to this little guy in "Jason" language and shame the little boy said to him "please speak English, I don't understand you". It was too cute!!
Last week we had one bad day where Jason had a cyclic vomiting episode at school and I had to fetch him early. When I got to school he was gagging uncontrollably, sopping wet from sweating, red ears and shivering. I got him home and he passed out fast asleep straight away. I have learnt with these episodes that if you don't catch them quick they can last a long time, sometimes ending up in hospital. Luckily I was able to control this one. I know what to do and I just have to catch it quickly. He didn't have a fever so I think what happened was he got all excited because he was innocently told at school that he was going to visit someone and that got him started. It's sad how any form of excitement can do this to him. Even today with mentioning that we were going to the animal farm we had a few gags but luckily that didn't develop further.
On Saturday night something scary happened as well. Every parent's nightmare. Jason burnt both his hands on the lid of the weber braai. It happened so fast and before we knew it his hands were burnt. The scary thing is with Jason he doesn't feel hot or cold and doesn't feel pain so his body doesn't react quickly like ours would. Instead of touching it and reacting, his delayed reaction caused him to put both his hands flat on the braai and they got burnt quite nasty. He didn't cry, didn't scream, just came to me with his hands and when I felt them they were still very hot. We ran them under cold water and put ice on the burns. This morning the blisters are up and shame a lot of them. All he did to show his discomfort was to rub his hands on the couch - shame we felt terrible but accidents happen and it really wasn't our fault. It happened in a flash. Scary though seeing how Jason doesn't react to hot and cold. Always been one of his symptoms.
Otherwise we have had a lovely weekend. We went to the beach and the animal farm this weekend and the kids loved it. Jason's sensory issues are getting so much better. Not long ago he wouldn't get on a horse or even touch an animal. Today he was loving all the animals and only too excited to go for a pony ride. Everything is falling into place.
Wednesday we have octagam in hospital already - yes 3 weeks already. On Saturday we have our fundraiser at the Barnyard which should be fun. I have booked 12 tables so far which is fantastic. I am very excited and grateful to all of you that have helped with ticket sales, spreading the word and just supporting us on this. We really appreciate it! On Saturday I just plan to sit down, relax and enjoy the show. Granny and grandpa are looking after Jason and Nicole and Bruce and myself can have a night out :-).
